You all can start the celery growing indoors as well as outdoors. The seedlings can be bought from the greenhouses. Even you can start the gardening with the bringing of the used stalk of the grocery store. In the normal temperature zones, the celeries are an ideal fall crop. In regions like Alaska, this is a summer crop. And in hot and humid areas like the American south, it is a winter crop.

If you are willing to start planting in a colder climate, you must start gardening indoors. And make sure to start that about 8 – 10 weeks before the last frost. That time usually translates into early to mid-March. Normally the celery requires 3 – 4 months for growth. If you have an idea about the fall crop, you should sow the seeds in May or June. Even if you have an idea of a winter crop, you should sow the seeds during September and October.

In most cases, the beginners would be frustrated with these celeries. The reason is the celeries don’t seem to ever sprout. The reason is the celery seeds aren’t similar to the other seed types. The planting should have to be started with the loose bed of soil. Every cell has to be consistent with the loose bed of soil.  You can add 2 -3 seeds to each cell. Tamp the seeds down by using your fingers. But make sure not to push the seeds down.

Then after germination of the seeds, you have to be alerted of the external conditions that the plant requires. Usually, the celery seeds require direct sunlight for the best growth. If you can’t supply that condition, you have an alternative. Assign a fluorescent to grow light to provide the light conditions. Again you can further follow the instructions by the manufacturer. When planting doesn’t plant the seeds in the clumps of four or more. Later you have to do a lot of thinking because the celery seeds are so tiny. Later the plants will grow very near each other, without allowing proper ventilation.

That is regarding the planting of celery by using the seeds. Then we will see,

From grocery store celery stalks

This can be easily done if you have brought a stalk of celery from a nearby grocery store. Instead of throwing the stalk away, you can try dozen new things with that stalk. Don’t throw the stalk away. Cut the base of it.  Then take a bowl with water. Soak the celery stalk in that water-filled bowl. Then keep that near a window. Always the cut stalk should be kept facing upwards.

After one week, certainly, you will see some tiny green leaves appear from the center of the base. Then you are done with the planting. You are allowed to transfer it into the vegetable garden or else to another pot.  It is better if you arrange the soil conditions as loose and moist. Watering also should be done to maintain the condition of the soil.

The planting is not only sufficient. There are more other things you have to supply as fertilizers. Usually, the celery needs full sunlight from 5 – 7 hours per day. If you have picked up a bright location, it is better to provide these conditions. Preparing the soil is the next one. The roots of the celeries are fragile and those are hairlike. And they won’t grow well in the sandy, clay soil and soil conditions with heavy dirt. Then for maintenance of the fertility of the soil is also required. For that, you can add some fertilizers. Gently raking the all-purpose fertilizer through the top layer is only sufficient. The addition of the used coffee grounds also does well in the celery plantation.
